Based on the comparison of the image of “Pueraria lobate” in The Book of Songs and Manyoushu, the writer finds out that the theme of poems is always related to family affection and love and marriage when Chinese and Japanese poets used “Pueraria lobata” (Japanese: クズ) in poems; ‘picking Pueraria lobota’ in love-and-marriage-related poems in Chinese and Japanese ancient literature is not only an ordinary labor, but also a way for men and women to show affections in terms of literary image and folklore; poems about “Pueraria lobata” in The Book of Songs are more concerned about social issues like hardships of the people, while in Manyoushu they are more concerned about the expression of personal emotion because of different social backgrounds.
